Why Might You Consider Breast Lift?

Individuals considering a breast lift may have concerns about changes in breast shape over time. Some factors that may lead to considering this procedure include:

  • Changes in breast position and firmness
  • Nipples that sit lower on the breast or point downward
  • Changes in skin elasticity
  • Differences in breast position between the two sides.

If you’re considering this procedure, it’s important that you are:

  • In good overall health
  • At a stable, healthy weight
  • Realistic about what the procedure could achieve.
  • BMI of less than 35

What’s the First Step If You’re Considering a Breast Lift?

Step 1 is a consultation with an experienced Specialist plastic surgeon, such as Dr Drew Cronin.

Our Specialist Plastic surgeons will take the time to listen to your concerns and goals and explain the potential benefits and risks of a breast lift so you can decide whether it’s right for you.

How is a Breast Lift Performed?

Your Specialist Plastic surgeon performs the breast lift while you’re under a general anaesthetic. The approach taken depends on your goals and the degree of breast change.

Common surgical techniques include:

  • Crescent lift: A small incision around the upper part of the areola.
  • Periareolar lift: An incision around the entire areola.
  • Vertical lift: An incision around the areola and a vertical line down to the breast crease.
  • Anchor lift: An incision around the areola, vertically down the breast and along the breast crease.

A mastopexy does not change the overall volume of the breasts – for that, you need breast augmentation, fat grafting or breast reduction surgery.
