Scar Treatment Package and Plan
To date, scars cannot be removed completely, but with effective treatment and good prevention, the appearance and side effects of a scar can be improved significantly. In addition, the likelihood of developing scar can be reduced effectively if treatment starts immediately after wound closure.
Scar Treatment Package
At The Coastal Clinic, we have developed a scar treatment plan based on clinical evidence to optimise the healing and long-term appearance of surgical scars. All surgical patients are offered the scar treatment package as an optional addition to their surgery.
Scar Treatment Package $990 (valued at $1500)
Dr Cronin will advise you when it is safe to begin the scar treatment plan at your 6 week review.
This package can be purchased at the time of booking your surgery, or after. The package is also available to non-surgical patients or patients who have recently had surgery elsewhere.
If you would like more information about the package please contact the clinic on (07) 5683 0822 or email us at info@thecoastalclinic.com.au.

Talking scarring with Dr Cronin
In this video, Dr. Cronin explains what to expect after surgery in terms of surgical scar and explains in detail the natural progression of scar healing over the first 12 months.
What are the clinical benefits of the scar treatment plan?
We have developed a scar treatment plan based on clinical evidence to optimise the healing and long-term appearance of surgical scars.
Laser
Laser therapy is an effective, non-invasive option for reducing the redness of surgical scars. Clinical evidence demonstrates that laser treatment helps to remodel thickened, disorganised scar tissue, accelerating scar maturation and enhancing the long-term appearance of scars.
Patients can experience significant benefits, including reduced redness and a more even skin tone, addressing both cosmetic concerns and the risk of pigmentation changes.
Skin needling
Regular skin needling treatments have been shown to reduce the size and thickness of surgical scars.
The micro-needling process breaks down scar tissue and encourages the formation of new, healthy tissue in its place.
This leads to a gradual flattening and softening of the scar, making it less prominent and more in line with the surrounding skin.
LED Heallite
LED Healite therapy offers numerous benefits for treating surgical scars, including enhanced wound healing, reduced inflammation and redness, and improved collagen production, leading to smoother and softer scars.
Stratamed
Stratamed is a film-forming, flexible, full contact wound dressing that can be applied immediately after suturing or on open wounds.
It promotes a moist environment for faster healing and early abnormal scar prevention.
Strataderm
Strataderm is applied once the scar has fully healed. It forms a flexible, breathable silicone film that hydrates and protects scars from chemical and microbial invasion.
This helps to reduce redness, discoloration, and itching while promoting a softer, flatter scar texture. It also helps to normalise the collagen synthesis cycles, producing a normal mature scar.
At The Coastal Clinic, we provide exceptional surgical care and patient-centred end-to-end service to our clients on their journey to becoming the most confident, authentic version of themselves.
What is a scar and what are the different types of scars?
Understanding the different types of scars and how they form is crucial for effective scar management and treatment. Each type of scar has unique characteristics and may require specific treatments to improve their appearance and reduce any associated discomfort.
What is a scar?
A scar is a mark left on the skin after an injury has healed, forming as part of the natural healing process. When the deep layer of skin (dermis) is damaged, the body produces excess collagen to repair the area, resulting in a scar with a different texture and quality than the surrounding skin.
Scars typically develop within the first 48 hours after wound closure and may fade over 3-12 months, with full maturation taking up to two years.
Linear/Surgical Scar
A surgical scar is called a linear hypertrophic scar because they are confined to the border of the original surgery or trauma. They form due to an overproduction of collagen during the healing process.
These scars are initially raised, red and thickened, however over time they mature to an elevated scar with increased width.
Keloid Scars
Keloid scars are raised, thick, and extend beyond the original wound, often requiring treatment due to their size and potential discomfort.
Atrophic scars
Atrophic scars: are sunken, resulting from tissue loss, commonly seen with acne or chickenpox.
Widespread hypertrophic scars
Are similar to linear ones but over larger areas, often result from extensive injuries like burns.
Widespread stretched scars
Are flat and thin, caused by skin stretching during healing, making the scar wider and more spread out.
