Brow Lift (Browplasty)

A brow lift (also called browplasty) aims to reposition a descended brow and improve forehead lines and brow asymmetry. It can also reduce the “heavy” lateral hooding that makes upper eyelids look tired. Technique selection depends on your hairline, skin elasticity, degree and pattern of brow descent, and goals.

Who is a Good Candidate for a Brow Lift (Browplasty)

A good candidate for a brow lift, or browplasty, typically includes individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Heavy or Descended Brows Heavy or descended brows can change the appearance of the upper face.
  • Deep Forehead Creases Deep forehead creases or frown lines not fully improved with non‑surgical treatments.
  • Lateral Hooding Over the Outer Eyelids Excess skin along the outer eyelids can affect the appearance of the upper eyelid area.
  • Good Overall Health Candidates should be in good overall health, without any serious medical conditions that could impair healing or increase surgical risks. If you are a smoker (or vape) individuals must be willing to quit smoking well before and after the surgery. Smoking can impair blood flow and healing, increasing the risk of complications.
  • Realistic Expectations Having realistic expectations about the outcomes of the surgery is crucial. While a brow lift can rejuvenate the face, it cannot stop the ageing process or change one’s fundamental appearance.
  • Emotional Readiness Being emotionally prepared for surgery and understanding the recovery process and potential risks involved.

Brow Lift The Procedure

Most brow lifts are performed as day surgery. After anaesthesia, your surgeon makes the planned incisions, carefully lifts and repositions the brow soft tissues, and secures them with sutures or fixation devices. Incisions are closed with fine stitches or staples depending on location.

Dressings are applied and you will recover in our day facility before discharge with written instructions and follow‑up appointments.

Scar Locations at a Glance

  • Direct: A curved line just above the brow hairs.
  • Lateral temporal: 2–3 cm incisions hidden in the temporal hairline.
  • Endoscopic: Several 1–2 cm incisions behind the hairline across the scalp.

What are the Different Techniques Used to Perform a Brow Lift?

Direct Brow Lift

Best for: Marked brow descent (often central), asymmetric or heavy brows; common in men with high foreheads or receded hairlines.

  • Incision: Just above the brow hairs, following natural contour.
  • Anaesthesia: Local with sedation or general, day surgery.
  • Advantages: Strongest lift, precise asymmetry correction; avoids moving the hairline.
  • Trade‑offs: Fine scar along the upper brow margin; meticulous scar care essential.

Lateral Temporal Lift

Endoscopic Brow Lift

Will a brow lift change my eye shape?

A brow lift elevates the brow position and can reduce hooding. It does not change the eyeball shape. If excess eyelid skin is present, upper blepharoplasty may be recommended in combination.
